Olivia Urena Ceramics
The Artist ~ Olivia Urena
My pieces are a representation of multiple medias of clay: slabs and wheel throwing. I work to create functional pieces as well as statement pieces. I used new clay to make my slabs and recycled clay when wheel throwing. May 10th was my schools Spring Art Show. For my show, I decided to do a beach-kitchen theme. As a senior, my year has been very stressful and the beach always makes me feel very relaxed. Much of what I create is influenced by my grandfathers house in South Carolina.
Displayed in some pictures above are three jars, a bowl, mug and plate set, and five coasters. I pushed myself to use different medias of clay; I used slabs to make my jars and coasters; then I used the wheel for my bowl, mug, and plate set. I used regular glazing techniques such as painting on the glaze and dipping the pots into glaze. Along with my bowl, mug, and plate set, I used photo decal to transfer my starfish image onto the white base. In college I hope to continue on my ceramic journey.

Along with all the working, a ceramic day wouldn't be complete with out my friends. It's always the highlight of my day to come into the studio and spend some time with people who make me happy and even in those stressful times know how to put a smile on my face.
